There is a lot of controversy about the validity of the BMI scale, but still, it's a pretty handy guide. I'm not incredibly muscular or have tiny bones or anything that would skew the results beyond recognition - the Wii is right - I am slightly overweight. AND it doesn't give me a lecture about how I should stop worrying about my weight and how I'm fine just as I am and how the average woman is 5'3" and 153 pounds (or something like that) because I don't give a crap about any of that. I want to lose 10 pounds and this is just the incentive I need.
I love the fact that it tells me I'm unbalanced - because I am. Mentally, yes, but the Wii is judging my balance physically. I am determined to improve. I am determined to stop that fucking irritating Wii Fit tips screen from telling me such obvious things like I need to eat less. It's so beautiful that I am inspired to workout by some electronic toy. The result is that I am faithfully doing my Wii balance and mild cardio stuff. I know that this does not count as a major workout but I also know that I will not haul my ass to a gym so at least I am moving around a bit.
I love my Wii.
Oh this made me laugh! I have some similar feelings about my Wii Fit, especially the little voice that tells me I'm obese. Thanks! I knew that already!
ReplyDeleteOne night last week the trainer girl said something like "Oh, it's late, I'm tired!" I was a little offended. I was there to work out, not hear about her life! Can't we focus on me?
We played Wii over xmas, and my sisters house, I loved the tennis and bowling!
ReplyDeleteMy friends have Wii's and I can see why it's so motivating and fun. I just started working out to those "Slim in 6" DVDs. Lots of kicking and punching, which I enjoy a great deal, and the instructor is a bit annoying so it makes me wanna kick and punch even harder.
ReplyDelete"I love my Wii"
ReplyDeleteIt's a sentence that makes me want to giggle.
The wife & I sold ours. But I miss having it ask me if I've been walking into walls lately.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't already have it, I also recommend Wii Active. It takes Wii Fit to a whole new level!
Wow. I had no clue the Wii Fit did that! How insulting and inspiring of the Wii! But if it motivates you, then you should go for it.
ReplyDeleteI don't join gyms either. I've been to a few every now and then. But I'd rather work out at home or outdoors.
I have to say I like the regular Wii sports/games thingee better---I like to forget I am working out. I am the type of person that hates to exercise if it feels like calesthenics/exercise... so I need to trick myself into thinking I already look damn good (HAH!) and just have fun. Sigh. I wish I could be motivated by a fat Susan avatar...
ReplyDeleteLesley: Our reactions are identical over trainer girl's comments. :)
ReplyDeleteCD: I haven't tried the bowling yet.The boxing was tiring me out so much that I went all Rambo and ko'ed my friend so that the match ended quickly
Kat: Ooooh! I'll have to check out those Slim in 6 DVDs. I haven't heard of them. turns out my bf hogs the Wii. Sigh.
Dan: I still laugh over the youtube video of the head slap
Perplexio: Okay, definitely I'll have to look into Wii Active
Eros: Being outdoors is just the best. But the Wii is a close second for me.
Susan: I'm the opposite - having to play tennis to me feels like a workout, and reminds me of the humiliation of how much I suck at tennis in real life, but with Wii fit - well, how can I not love appearing in a penguin costume and trying to balance on an iceberg while catching fish?
Sounds fun. I should probly look into it.
