It's your last day on earth...

... wouldn't it be kind of nice to sleep in, make yourself a nice cup of tea, and *then* hurl yourself in front of a subway train? Why on earth would you get up for rush hour and do so?

Is it a control thing? Is your last thought, "I'm going to die but in doing so I'm going to make these people late for work." I hate to disappoint you, but it's not that big a statement to make. By now we take subway delays in stride. Your suicide is up there with "the signals aren't working" or "somebody has pressed the security alarm".

Is it a last-minute decision? Were you watching the train pull in and suddenly thought, "Not. one. more. meeting." If so, I can kind of relate.

Do you get off on witnesses? I'm sure you have traumatized many. Others will just see you as a great story for their friends.

I always think it's someone's right to kill themselves. I've thought of it myself many times. But please - show some class. Be discreet and choose a less annoying method.

I once thought of jumping in front of the train. It was the inconveniencing of everyone else that stopped me.
Same reason I never randomly drove my car into a bridge on the 401...

Wow. I've never seen someone take that stance on a suicide before. I must say it's refreshing. And I will admit when I was suicidal, the thoughts were always of how I could do it RIGHT THEN AND THERE, and to fuck with what anyone else thought.

Brice: I'm the same way - I wanted to drown myself but then thought of divers having to search for my body. But I've never wanted to jump in front of a train.

Sunshine: I reflected on it because when there are subways delays and we all finally get to the office, we sit around and speculate what the cause for the delay was. It's all so casual - Oh, do you think there was a jumper?

You're right though that by the time someone actually jumps in front of a train they just want the turmoil to end. They aren't thinking of much at all.

When someone jumps in front of a tube train here in the UK the announcement comes over the loudspeaker as "there's a body on the track". Honestly it does,I didn't believe it at first but its because of the July bombers and to avoid all the passengers panicking if they said "there's an object on the track" which is what they used to say.

OMG, 'there's a body on the track'? That would TOTALLY freak me out. I probably wouldn't get on the train for fear of running over their soul.

meherenow: Welcome! omg that's too funny in a sick way. Here they often say, "Problem at track level" or something like that

I have also thought of this many times.
I guess if you're going...who cares about others?

I wish they would shoot bean bag bullets at the selfish pricks who want to jump off bridges during rush hour.

If they fall the wrong way, well, I guess it was meant to be.

Traffic needs to move, man.
