Quitting is for quitters

I have cut down a lot on my caffeine consumption. I am down to a solo espresso in the morning. I do find that I am sleeping better. It used to be that I could have an espresso at midnight and be fast asleep half an hour later, but now caffeine does affect my sleep - one of the other stupid aspects of aging. Anyhow, today I thought, "Why don't I give up coffee completely?". It suffices to say that it lasted until noon.

Perhaps you ought to wean yourself off slowly and replace coffee with something else, like tea. Then again, surely one small cup a day isn't going to kill you. Everything in moderation!

I had to switch to Half-Caff coffee or straight up decaf depending on my mood, a few years ago. It was giving me heart palpitations. Getting older has it's perks but coffee isn't one of them.

I had a terrible caffeine addiction in college---to the point of passing out if I didn't get enough. Took a long time to wean myself, but now it takes a TON of caffeine to affect me. I only have 1 to 2 cups a day, and actually don't "need" it--I just love the taste of coffee and the ritual. And remember, black tea actually has MORE caffeine than regular drip coffee, and drip coffee has more caffeine than espresso (the longer coffee is roasted, the less caffeine it has).

Rox made a pun and didn't even realize it.

Eros: I can drink tea but I so prefer my morning espresso. I think you're right that if I stick to one all should be well.

Rox: I'm not fond of the flavour of decaf espresso so I'll stick to limiting, but I don't mind mixing decaf in a regular cup of coffee

Susan: Wow, that was one intense addiction! I do feel queasy if I have a full cup of coffee as opposed to my espresso

Torn: I smiled too when i saw the perks part.

I like to think I can stop drinking coffee, but I daren't put it into practice. I have cut down on the wine, though. No weekday drinking anymore, just at weekends, and I feel much better for doing so.

IDV: Did you switch to vodka on weekdays?

Oops. Sorry IDV. I forgot about your aversion to vodka. Perhaps G&Ts after work then?
