The annual complaint

I like Canadian Thanksgiving being low-key and in October. That said, it's days like today that I almost wish that we shared the November American Thanksgiving, for no other reason than the fact that Christmas wouldn't be the only major holiday looming after Hallowe'en.

I walked into my neighbourhood Starbucks today and realized that Santa and his elves had barfed up decorations all over the store last night. As much as I like to partake in a seasonal peppermint mocha (tall, two-pump, decaf, non-fat, non-whip, extra hot, hold the sprinkles...) - it's November 2nd. I'm going to be so sick of Christmas by the time it's Christmas.

At least they weren't playing Christmas carols yet. I mean, it's Diwali on Friday. Can't we put up a few decorations for that instead?

Even though we have November Thanksgiving here, Starbucks and all the malls are now totally Christmas-fied. It's nauseating. I know that retail is doing quite poorly in this economy and they're worried about their bottom line, but it just seems so greedy rather than festive. Usually I look forward to seeing the red holiday Starbucks cups when they've introduced them after Thanksgiving. This year I saw them yesterday and thought "Seriously?!!"

Get all your shopping done early and then avoid, avoid, avoid! That's what I do!

Lesley: Ugh. There goes my theory!

Rox: Believe it or not, I love the hectic crush near Christmas, but yeah, don't need to experience it now.

Monday, the 1st of November, I went hunting in the stores for Halloween candy on sale. I found that the stores all ready had Xmas stuff up alongside the orange and red colors and stuff for Thanksgiving!

This weekend, I'm starting to send out Xmas cards and gifts that need to go overseas. That way, I won't have to worry about expensive express postal rates when I procrastinate...like last year.

I hate how we get bombarded continually the second one holiday is over, the next one fills the stores... even when it is months away! WTF is up with that!?!?!?

So... how ya feeling???

Eros: My theory about American Thanksgiving and delaying Christmas stuff is now shot to hell.

Ponita: I know, eh? Can't stores just have non-holiday time?

I have a rare burst of energy today so very happy.
