Good and bad

Congratulations to President Obama!

Read Tornwordo's post though to see why I am upset this morning. There is good news on the reproductive rights of women though - the horrifically restrictive abortion bans/ rights of the fetus stuff didn't pass.

Oh oh, I haven't reached Torn's blog yet. Is it going to piss me off?

I hope so.

Snooze, I was actually waiting for the news about Prop 8 out of California. I mean, I celebrated last night for the great victory of Barack, but I also knew that there were other important issues at stake.

Gay rights is the war we still wage in America. But I have faith in the people. We will overcome this prejudice and discrimination, just as the election of a mixed race President signals that America can look past race. It will not be easy, but it can be done!

There are people alive today, who grew up in a segregated America, denied the right to vote, beat up and tortured because of their skin color. They never thought this day, would come. But it has. And it will for all Americans, gay or str8, regardless of race, creed, or religion.

Don't forget, this might turn into a Supreme Court issue, because gay rights are legal in other states! Just as victory for civil rights started with a Supreme Court ruling that a little black girl can go to a white school in 1954, that there is no such thing as "separate but equal".

I agree.

We should celebrate this milestone, but know that there is a LOT of work ahead.

I believe the gay rights issues are simmering under the surface, and will bubble to the fore sooner rather than later. We must be ready for that fight. It's time.

Eros: Yes, you're absolutely right. Eyes on the prize...

Susan: Truly it is.
